I’m listening through this right now. I’m really excited about a lot of it. Some of it, though, makes me really sad. Ten years post-“Is This It?” and we’re sitting around, talking about it being a game-changer because it was sharp, sad, funny, wistful and articulate, while I feel that a lot of zeitgeisty music right now (including several artists on this comp) are actively shitting on those values.
I’m talking about these hazy, boring, inarticulate sounds that some people seem to be getting excited about. I’m talking about Chelsea Wolfe turning “The Modern Age” into a nauseating, melody-free dirge. I can’t wrap my mind around it. I hate this aesthetic.
But you should really download this - most of it is incredible.
